(in progress)
This portrait project will tell the stories of women who have pursued athletics as adults, and who have gone on to accomplish something noteworthy in their sport, whether by completing a triathlon, winning a title, being part of an undefeated team, or achieving other examples of success. Playing sports in school is one thing, but playing while raising a family, working, or caring for others, shows a different level of commitment. What motivates women over age 40 to challenge themselves in sports, and what is the payoff?
To tell their stories, Alaina is creating portraits of these athletes in their sporting environments. Participants will be asked to respond to a series of questions such as: What motivated you to start working out in your adult years? What is your sport and why did you choose it? What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them? What benefits have you experienced? What has given you your greatest satisfaction? These stories are important to tell because they are inspiring, they show us what it means to push oneself beyond perceived limits both physically and mentally, and they help us understand the role of teamwork, friendship and camaraderie through sports.
Alaina is actively recruiting athletes who:
Are at least 40 years old
Have accomplished a challenging athletic goal
Are available for a one-hour photo session
The result will be a book of portraits and stories of a diverse group of talented, athletic, determined, and noteworthy women!
